The Importance Of Quality Blog Posts
Have you ever published a new post on your blog, sent it out to the world, and then wished you didn’t? I know I have, and it feels terrible!
Posting something that is not well thought out, poorly written, or poorly researched reflects badly on you, your brand, and your reputation. It can have a real negative affect on your ability to attract the kind of viewers you are looking for.
Here are a few things to consider when writing a blog post:
Do you even know what your talking about? An uneducated post is like poison in a well. Everyone who drinks from it is going to wonder who the idiot is who put it there!
Is it a matter of opinion? If it is, remember that while some people may share your opinion, many others will not. Present your opinion in a way that does not alienate the opposing viewpoint, but rather makes them think and consider your opinion in a positive way. No sense turning people off and in turn, turning them away.
Is it too self-serving? Nobody cares how cool your office is, whether you have a view of the bay, orĀ if you have pets running around your office. People what to read about how you can help them out. How you can solve their problems, or make their life easier. Stop patting yourself on the back so much and post quality content your readers can relate to. The “look how cool I am” post is sending the wrong message.
Is the post timely and relevant? Yesterdays news is old news and off topic posts don’t really have a place in your company blog. On a personal blog, you can talk about pretty much whatever you want. On a business blog, keep your content relevant to your main topic.
Politics? Really? Unless you operate a political blog, or unless there is an industry relevant political action to report on, keep your political opinions to yourself. Even if you side with the majority, you run the risk of alienating potential customers who do not share your views. The same goes for religion. Keep it off of your business blog.
Things to do when writing a blog:
- Research your topic.
- Proofread your post.
- Use proper spelling and grammar.
- Be objective.
- Be timely and relevant.
- Insert value.
- Provide a call to action of some kind
